Brief Introduction to Indonesia
With 17,508 islands (6,000 of
which are inhabited), Indonesia
is the largest archipelago country in the world. It is bordered directly with Timor-Leste, Malaysia, and Papua
New Guinea.
Indonesia
is the fourth most populous country in the world with
approximately 238 million inhabitants. The average age of
Indonesian citizen is about 28.2 years
old. The population growth rate is about 1.1% in 2010.
Indonesia’s
political system is a presidential republic. President
is the head of state and the head of government, elected every five
years directly by the people. Institution authorized to change and set the constitution is the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), which consists of the
House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representatives Council
(DPD). The Independence from Dutch colonist
achieved on August 17 1945.
